Samivel Watercolour artist - Author

Nevertheless Samivel the graphic designer never ceased to be fascinated by the world of altitude.

His snow scenes and mountain watercolours, close to the vision of artists from the Far East, were exhibited at the Drouant and Allard galleries and in different museums.
His paintings were famous and an anthology published in Tokyo classed him amongst the 110 best international illustrators.


The writer published new work :
       - Contes à pics (Stories of sheer summits)
       - Contes des brillantes montagnes avant la nuit (Stories of brilliant mountains before night)
       - Il y aura de l'eau pour les cygnes... (There will be water for swans)
       - Le Fou d'Edenberg (The Edenberg madman) novel still published.

He also wrote books on history :
       - les grands Cols des Alpes (Great mountain passes of the Alps)
       - La grande ronde autour du Mont blanc (The great tour around Mont Blanc)
       - Monastères de Montagne (Mountain Monasteries)
       - Montagne Paradis ou le rêve romantique (Mountain Paradise or the romantic dream).

Hommes cimes et dieux (Men summits and gods) about the great myths of altitude and mountains legends throughout the world.
La Dame du Puit (The Woman of the Well), fables for adults appeared in 1991.
This same year Karel Prokop made a film about Samivel: Samivel l'esprit émerveillé (the wonderful mind of Samivel).


It was at the suggestion of Daniel Rops (who was his history and geography teacher) that Samivel did the illustrations in 1946, for Grande peur dans la Montagne (Fear in the Mountain) by C.F Ramuz.

Samivel bequeathed all his work to the Museum of Ethnography in Geneva (Switzerland).
