Samivel - Explorer - Filmmaker

He met Paul Emile Victor who asked him to be part of the First French Polar Expedition to Greenland in 1948 .

Samivel went as filmmaker and special envoy for Nouvelles Littéraires.

Afterwards, came his travel period from which he brought back both films and books.

His chosen subjects were Nature and History.

First came the world of the Arctic.

Then in 1952 he made a film on the beauty of alpine nature Cimes et Merveilles (Summits and Marvels).

Samivel was also a committed forerunner along with his friend Théodore Monod, for conserving the environment and life in all its forms.

Two years before the television programme "La caméra explore le temps (The camera explores time)" (1956),
Samivel created a new style of looking at the past where the history of a civilisation is evoked through its people, landscapes and works of art.

In 1954, Samivel considered joining  the Swiss explorer Ella Maillart who was preparing a trip to Nepal.

Samivel egypte But events in his favour made him decide to leave for Egypt.

He returned with his famous film Trésor de l'Egypte (The Glory of Egypt)

Then he produced:
        - le Soleil se lève en Grèce
        - Univers géant or the new Gulliver's Travels (about the world of insects)
        - l'Or de l'Islande
        - Soleils en Provence
        - Cimes et merveilles II.
